Carney first began coaching with the organization in 2010, when the club was still known as the Tommies Volleyball Club. Since then, Carney has regularly coached with the club, attending tournaments throughout Canada and in he United States. In addition to Spartans, he coaches with VNB's Elites program, and at Leo Hayes High School. 

In addition to volleyball, Carney is a teacher at Leo Hayes. In his spare time, he enjoys watching the turnaround of the Ottawa Senators, and enjoys playing volleyball and golf!
