FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who is this program for?

  • This program is designed for athletes at a range of levels, from beginners who are new to beach volleyball to experienced players preparing for provincial or national competition.

How do I know which program stream is right for my child?

  • The best fit depends on your child’s age, experience, and goals. Players who are new to the sport will usually fit best in the foundation-style program, while athletes looking for league play or tournament competition may be better suited for League, Provincials, or Nationals. If you are unsure, contact the club for guidance before registering.  spartansprograms@gmail.com

Does my child need beach volleyball experience to join?

  • Not always. Some streams are intended to teach skills and introduce athletes to the game, while others are more competitive and expect previous playing experience.

How are age groups determined?

  • Age categories are typically based on the athlete’s birth year.  Volleyball Canada has 16 month DOB categories to allow for let year development.

Can my child play in an older age group?

  • We encourage players to register within their age group. Sometimes that may be possible for more advanced athletes, but generally this is decided by the Club based on skill level, safety, and team fit.

What is included in the registration fee?

  • Registration generally includes costs included for court time, equipment, administrative fees, and other items specifically listed for a particular stream (e.g., clothing, coaching, etc.). Families are responsible for additional fees, such as tournament entry fees, accommodation and associated costs. Please note that athletes registered in the Provincial and National Streams, Fredericton Youth Beach Volleyball League fee IS covered but parents and athletes are responsible for tournament entry fees through VNB and VC. These fees are not included in the registration fee.

Are there any additional costs beyond registration?

  • There may be. Depending on the stream, families may need to budget for tournament entry fees (e.g., VNB tour, VNB provincials and Volleyball Canada Nationals), memberships, travel, meals, or overnight stays.  We will have a in person meeting on May 4th at 6pm at Willie Oree Beach Courts to help with this.

Do I need to register with a partner?

  • Foundation does not require you to register with a partner. League, Provincial and National Stream require you to register with a partner.

What is the weekly time commitment?

  • This depends on the stream. The Foundations stream meets once per week, while other streams may include multiple practices.

What should my child bring to each session?

  • Players should bring water, athletic clothing, sunscreen, a towel and hat or sunglasses if desired. Please note that game play does take place rain or shine. Players may consider wearing long sleeves or pants during rainy weather or colder days. We encourage everyone to dress and plan for the weather.  A large garbage bag is also help for rainy days to keep things dry.

What happens if there is bad weather?

  • Games take place, rain or shine. Please refer to our weather policy and check our Facebook page for updates (e.g., lightening, extreme heat or questions of air quality).

Are make-up sessions offered if something is cancelled?

  • Not always. We will do our best based on availability.

  • It varies by stream. The Foundations Stream is designed to focus on skill development, while the other streams are intended for athletes with more experience, and who are pursuing tournament play and higher-level competition.

Are tournaments mandatory?

  • For competitive streams, some events may be expected or required. The meeting and info session can help with this.   The streams were created in the idea of Provinical Stream attending VNB Provincials and National Stream attending Provincials and Nationals. Particiapates can make that schedule that works for them.

Will there be coach support at tournaments?

  • Both Provincial and National Streams include coaching practices and support at major events (i.e., VNB Provincials and Nationals).

  • There will be no refunds given after May 31st, 2026.  For injuries and other exceptional events and circumstances, refunds can be requested.

What if a program fills up?
